Category: Irish History

The Rosses peninsula is a strip of land about five miles long and one mile wide, running westwards into the Atlantic between the bays of Sligo and Drumcliffe. It is overlooked by the mountains of Benbulben and Knocknarea, and embraces the village of Rosses Point and nine rural townlands.

In this book, the stories of the penisula's past are interwoven with the landscape of the present, so that all who live here can share in the history of this magical place. The thatched cottages, small hotels, ferry boats, corn boats and sailing ships which characterised Rosses Point for over a century and a half, mays now be but a fading memory, yet the intrinsic character of the area still remains.
